About This Webinar
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is a trenchless technology that allows stakeholders to launch and steer pipe installations from the surface, and it is often used to install pipelines around obstructions. To support further education on HDD, the North American Society for Trenchless Technology hosted a webinar featuring several Kimley-Horn water/wastewater practice leaders with multi-faceted HDD experience. Each practice leader discussed a project that utilized HDD, including the Clear Fork Lift Station and Force Main and the Miami-Dade County 42-Inch HDPE Force Main.
About the Experts
James Bryan, PE
James has 16 years of industry experience—all with Kimley-Horn. His principal area of practice is in water and wastewater systems, and he has led design efforts on a range of projects, including water distribution and transmission, wastewater collection and pumping, water pumping and storage, and water and wastewater treatment. James currently leads Kimley-Horn’s water practice in Oklahoma and is partnering with utility owners across the state to improve and advance their water systems, helping prepare them for the next generation of water users in their communities.
Kevin Gerszuny, PE
Kevin has seven years of experience involving utility engineering projects. He has experience with design, permitting, and construction management of water and wastewater transmission pipelines, pump stations, and treatment facilities. He has been a key member of water and wastewater pump station designs with peak capacities of up to 10 MGD, and transmission pipelines up to 48-inch diameter. He has experience with open cut, directional drilling, pipe bursting, microtunneling, and CIPP lining technologies.
Josh Kercho, PE
Josh has more than 16 years of experience specializing in a wide range of water and wastewater design and planning services, including water and wastewater pipelines, lift stations, pump stations, water storage, and water/wastewater master planning. He is particularly passionate about helping his clients find unique solutions to pipeline and pumping challenges, including various trenchless installation methods and inverted siphon design.
Marty Paris, PE
Marty is a trenchless technology practice leader with more than 30 years of experience in the design of water and wastewater infrastructure and rehabilitation projects. He has worked on over 200 miles of large- and small-diameter water and wastewater pipeline projects ranging from six-inches to 120-inches and has assisted multiple municipalities with planning, design, and construction phases. His experience includes 200,000 linear feet of trenchless replacement/rehabilitation methods, including cured-in-place, pipe bursting, horizontal directional drilling, microtunneling, fold and form, slip lining, tunneling, and horizontal auger boring.
Kyle Sanderson, PE
Kyle has 17 years of experience serving municipal clients with water and wastewater design in and around the Dallas area. His project experience with pipeline design includes large and small diameter design as well as various types of trenchless installation, such as auger boring, tunneling, horizontal directional drilling, CIPP, pipe bursting, slip lining and carbon fiber rehabilitation. Kyle has also been involved in construction phase services of major water and wastewater infrastructure.
