John Jackson Featured on Transition to Zero Podcast
Transit planner John Jackson was featured on the Transition to Zero podcast, a program focusing on the transit industry’s journey to achieving net zero emissions. He joined host Jared Schnader for a conversation about Kimley-Horn’s role in preparing a guidebook for the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) on low- and zero-emission bus fleet transitions.
John discussed how preparing employees for a different type of bus can be overlooked in fleet transitions—but workforce development is just as important as vehicle infrastructure or funding. He also shared insights on Kimley-Horn’s work for Virginia DRPT and how training programs will be essential to shore up a workforce for operating and maintaining low- or zero-emission bus fleets.
Additionally, John shared his thoughts on the pros and cons of Bus Rapid Transit and the equitable power of providing transportation to underserved communities, which is one of the driving forces behind his decision to pursue transit planning as a career.
