Clematis Flex Street Updates Featured in CNU Journal

Clematis Street is an innovative and pedestrian-friendly corridor in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida that leverages a flexible space to support parking, outdoor dining, and foot and bike transportation during weekends and special events. The Congress for the New Urbanism’s (CNU) Public Square journal featured Clematis Street’s exceptional design, which was completed through multiple phases by a Kimley-Horn landscape architecture team in collaboration with planning firm Dover, Kohl, & Partners.

The completed design has proven its worth to the City over the past few years, providing an adaptable and safe streetscape for pedestrians, cars, bikes, restaurants, street vendors, and event planners to gather and share in the life of the city. One notable design feature is click-and-drop retractable bollards along the redesigned Clematis Street blocks, which allow the City to quickly and easily switch the street from vehicle to pedestrian mode during weekends and events and reconfigure on-street parking to protected streetside dining.

The flexible updates to Clematis Street elevate the social atmosphere in West Palm Beach and have received multiple awards, including the 2021 American Society of Landscape Architects Florida Chapter Award of Honor and the 2020 Best Capital Project/Infrastructure Award: Large City from the Florida Redevelopment Association.
