Airport Magazine, a publication of the American Association of Airport Executives, featured Kimley-Horn aviation experts Andrew Scanlon and Christopher Hacker, who discussed frequent causes of runway incursions at airports as well as mitigation strategies. In their article, Andrew and Christopher offer several considerations for evolving airports, including addressing pavement width requirements that hinder visual cues, reducing the amount of back taxiing that occurs on runways, and preparing for construction projects through thoughtful communication and training.
“As you review your airfield and operations, always consider your ongoing airfield maintenance program and future development plans to ensure intelligent investments are being made that result in mitigating the potential for runway incursions.”
