Tony Esposito Explains the Effort That Contributed to the Airport's Upgrade

One of the busiest airports in the world, Chicago O’Hare International (ORD), developed and implemented a modernization plan, including a deicing facility and taxiway system, to accommodate current and future airport needs. Speaking to Airport Improvement magazine, Tony Esposito discussed the careful planning that went into the project.
“The difficulty is phasing the utilities that need to remain active at all times through the program. I couldn’t tell you how many hundreds of hours we spent going through different phasing scenarios just to keep different utilities active.”
Carrying out the entirety of this project while keeping airport operations running required several phases of planning and design along with constant communication among stakeholders.

Tony has more than 15 years of airside and landside design, construction management, construction observation, estimating, scheduling, specifications, phasing, and sustainability experience. He specializes in taxiway design, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and extensions; new cargo, terminal and remain overnight aprons; rehabilitation and reconstruction of aprons; new runways; and design of runway rehabilitation, reconstructions, and extensions. Tony has worked closely with airport, FAA, and airline staff to develop phasing plans that minimize impacts to airfield operations and maintain the safest working conditions for construction personnel and airport users. His experience includes small, medium, and large hub airports both domestic and international.
