Otay Mesa Power Generating Plant

Calpine Corporation

San Diego, CA

Kimley-Horn provided civil engineering services for the design and construction of a 500 Megawatt power plant in east Otay Mesa. The project included the planning, design and construction of 12,000 feet of 18-inch trunk sewer in Johnson Canyon. The sewer alignment passed through an environmentally sensitive area that required special construction methods as part of the mitigation. The project also included the design of 2,600 feet of potable and reclaimed water mains to serve the power plant. Perimeter roads were designed including a storm drain system that connected to the on-site detention basins. Preliminary alignment plans for an off-site 20 inch natural gas pipeline were prepared for the project, as well as a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and post-construction Stormwater Management Plan.
