Fort Norfolk is a three-acre, urban waterfront redevelopment area linking downtown Norfolk to the region’s medical complex and Ghent suburb. Kimley-Horn served as the prime consultant for a 14-story, mixed-use development project for the area that will contain retail, medical office space and a parking garage. Services provided include civil engineering, rezoning, environmental, landscape architecture, streetscape design, stormwater design, and due diligence for this three-acre property. Unique environmental concerns included the removal of contaminated material from the sites’ previous use as a petroleum storage facility and a wetlands delineation because of an onsite pond. Road, water, and sewer improvements were also made.
