Houston's City Mobility Planning Process

Implementing Context Sensitive Solutions


In the City of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city, City Mobility Planning (CMP) is a new transportation planning process for long-term planning of major thoroughfares, freeways, and for street and traffic improvements prioritization in the Capital Improvement Plan.

The CMP is the framework for transportation planning of the City's street network. In collaboration with Houston-Galveston Area Council, the City's Public Works & Engineering Department and Planning & Development Department, the CMP developed new tools and processes to determine project priority. This paper looks at those processes.
